As a mental health care provider, art therapist, and visual artist, my work is rooted in embracing opportunities for reflection, exploring new perspectives, and uncovering valuable insight.

I help clients navigate overwhelming life circumstances, struggling with (or recovering from) addiction/alcoholism, healing from trauma, managing bipolar disorder, and/or exploring identity. Since becoming sober myself 7+ years ago, I've been struck by how impacted so many of us are by addiction within our families and friend groups; I also support clients whose lives are touched by addiction even if they themselves are not afflicted. I have experience supporting individuals across gender and sexuality spectrums, including members of LGBTQIA+ communities and their allied supporters. As a compassionate, creative, neurodivergent art therapist I believe that all humans deserve access to culturally competent care, and am committed to honoring the intersectionality of identity as I work to provide gender-affirming, decolonial, trauma-informed care.

My work is based on a psychodynamic, humanistic framework, and informed by the integrative belief that wellness encompasses all parts of self–mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical. I believe in the healing qualities of meaningful connections, creative expression, and experiencing nature. I use person-centered approaches with clients who are feeling isolated, seeking relief from oppressive narratives, battling anxiety or depression, and who want to reclaim and redefine their lives. I help clients understand their needs, recognize their strengths, learn coping skills for emotional regulation, embrace acceptance, and unlearn the habits that keep them feeling stuck.

I see clients in-person for art therapy and virtually for art therapy or traditional talk therapy. I also offer outdoor art therapy and walk-and-talk therapy for nature-based healing sessions.

I earned my Master’s of Art in Art Therapy with an emphasis on counseling and my Bachelor’s of Fine Art in Painting and Drawing. For my master's thesis, I conducted qualitative research to evaluate the professional experience of credentialed art therapists using art therapy as treatment for nonbinary people with disordered substance use. I am credentialed with the Art Therapy Credentials Board as a Registered Provisional Art Therapist and am a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor in the state of Maryland. I am passionate about using the therapeutic qualities of art and nature to offer unwavering support to individuals looking to heal and grow.

    More About Art Therapy:

When used in a therapeutic setting, art-making is about the process not the product. There is no “wrong” way to create. Your art is an authentic expression of your thoughts and feelings, no matter how you make it! It is using a non-verbal language to find your unique voice when you cannot find the precise words. Art therapy does not require an artistic background, technical skills, or extensive knowledge of art–it is for folks who like to think outside the box and want to experience a new form of freedom.

Art can be abstract, messy, and unrefined! We can all be a little rough around the edges at times, so it is perfectly acceptable for our creations to share those same qualities. Giving ourselves permission to be imperfect is a freeing experience when done in a safe, supportive setting like therapy. The ability to find solace and strength through art-making and personal reflection is an empowering experience. Art is a valuable method of healing–it is about contemplation, validation, liberation. During the process of creative expression we are picking up the pieces of life and discovering how they fit together, how they relate to each other, and how we relate to them.

In art therapy sessions, we use art as a reflective tool, not a definitive assessment measure. I am not a mind reader, an art teacher, or a critic–when viewing your work I do not tell you what your art means, give you a grade, or judge the quality of your work (all art is valid!). I will be a helpful guide through a process that is centered on your perception, your interpretation, and your understanding of your own creation. I can help you learn how to use art materials, but becoming a masterful artist is not required or expected for art therapy.

Art therapy sessions include creating artwork to explore thoughts and process emotions, practice mindfulness, and engage in self-reflection. We work collaboratively to learn new coping skills and find your strengths. The artwork created in an art therapy session varies greatly, because our time together is tailored to your needs. It may include painting, drawing, collage, and much more.
